TEXT: PROVERBS 6:12-22

Key Verse : My son, keep thy father‘s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother” (Proverbs 6:20).

Billy Sunday, an American  athlete  turned evangelist, in one of his books entitled, Who said that, stated: “One reason sin flourishes is that it is treated like a cream puff instead of a rattlesnake.”

Our text depicts this reign of sins. Some people, in their quest for worldly fulfillment, regale in lies to have their way. They take pleasure in moral perversity and sowing of discord. Being wicked, they speak immoral words. They often think of ways to commit more sins and do not give a damn about what God thinks about their lifestyle. But God will not always overlook their evil. The day of reckoning will suddenly come upon them as a thief in the night. And there will be no hiding place from His wrath.

Our text listed seven detestable sins. They are: haughty eyes, lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that swiftly run to mischief, false witness and discord. To avoid God’s judgment, we must avoid a proud look or conceit, knowing that whatever we are today, it is God who made it possible. Equally, as the tongue is the most evil part of the body, to add lying to it will make it more terrible in God’s sight. We should therefore base everything we do on truth, while our hands should be used as tools of mercy, not as instruments of death to the innocent.

Our heart, also, should be pure and devoid of wicked imaginations, while our feet should refrain from all kinds of mischief and false witness which may cause great pain to other people. Seeds of discord should not emanate from the believer who is supposed to be a light in the world. The believer, through the all-sufficient merit of Christ, is an embodiment of all that is good and godly.

Thought for the Day : Sin surely pays its own brand of wages: death!
