TEXT: JOSHUA 6:12-26

Key Verse : And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it” (Joshua 6:18).

Jericho was a great city in the Bible. The inhabitants did not know that God had given it to Israel for a possession. The spies Joshua sent brought a positive report that they could overrun the city and possess it. Then,  Joshua appointed seven priests to blow ram’s horns in line with divine instruction.
Joshua warned the people against coveting and tampering with the accursed things in Jericho after its fall. He specifically told them that all the silver, gold and vessels of brass belonged to God and must be taken into the treasury of the Lord. By diligent observation of the rule of engagement on the part of Joshua, Jericho was defeated.

Believers must wholly depend on God to win life’s battles. Whenever there is any health, spiritual and financial challenges, believers must consult God who alone holds the answer to all circumstances. Many believers have suffered untold pains and losses as a result of self-management. Some believers try to rationalise the word and instructions of God with science and principle of logic. And when God’s instruction goes contrary to simple logic (as has always been) they doubt the authenticity of such divine directive. Others behave like Naaman, captain of the host of Syria, who got offended at Prophet Elisha’s directive that he should wash in the River Jordan seven times to regain his health from leprosy (2 Kings 5:5-10).

Believers must steer clear of actions and inactions that are capable of bringing curses. And since the Lord is the Alpha and Omega, He has the answer to every problem. So, when He leads the way, victory is sure.

Thought for the Day : Trusting in Jesus is the sure path to victory.
