Higher Everyday: Deceitful Kisses?

"Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful."
Proverbs 27:6

A friend who will not tell you the truth about yourself, is fair-weather friend. With such a friend, you do not need to look for a foe. Which would you prefer as you go out today, wounds or kisses? You will come across your friends and you will also come in contact with enemies. In the course of this day both can make a mark on you. Who, out of the two, will you want to be in your memory for the rest of the day?

A true friend will prefer to tell you the truth even if you may not fully appreciate what he says. On the other hand, an enemy may flatter you by keeping “negative” news from you. Wounds from a faithful friend or deceptive kisses from an enemy, which do you want? Jesus rejected the kisses of Judas and Daniel refused the dishes of Nebuchadnezzar. You must know, as a teenager, that the wise corrections of your friends and mentor will do you more good in the long run than sweet speeches of deceivers.

Challenge: Jesus rejected the kisses of Judas.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be a true friend to my friends today.
