THE RICH BEGGAR
"And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue...." (Luke 16:24)
It is certain that life here on earth will end for each one of us one day. Death will usher us into eternity. In eternity, many things that mattered on earth would become insignificant. Time as we used to know it on earth will be no more, and man will live an endless life in joy or sorrow.
The story of Lazarus as told by Jesus should be a real cause for concern. Lazarus was the drifter on earth. He was, in that sense, a very poor person. But when he died, he found himself in the bosom of Father Abraham. There, he was no longer a poor beggar. On the other hand, the rich man on earth found himself in torment in eternity. He became a helpless beggar, and he was begging Father Abraham send Lazarus to quench his thirst with a drop of water. That is why to beg on earth is nothing. It is the beggar in eternity that is the real beggar. Be a wise beggar today. Accept Jesus into your life and beg Him to forgive your sins, and make you His child today.
Challenge: Remember, there is eternity.
Prayer: Lord, cleanse me from every impurity.
