TEXT: PSALM 119:129-136
Key Verse: “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me” (Psalm 119:133).
Experts in child psychology and development know the major role proper guidance plays in the growth and development of the child. If a child is going to realize his full potentials, he has to be guided to recognise these potentials, develop them and adequately use them. Apart from this, when a child receives proper guidance in life, it saves him from a lot of hurtful decisions and habits that are capable of completely destroying him. This is why many schools have professionals in Guidance and Counselling. The need of guidance in life is not limited to the growing child alone. However, at every stage in life, man needs appropriate guidance in order to be able to make right decisions. If a businessman does not have good guidance, his business is sure to fail. Presidents, governors and other world leaders surround themselves with experts in different fields who function as special advisers. All these underscore the importance of guidance in life.
The child of God has the special and unique privilege to be guided through life by God Himself. This is the promise God gives to all those who will trust in Him. One of the means by which God guides His children is His word. This is why the Psalmist in our text not only expressed faith in the word of God to guide him but also prayed, requesting that all his steps be ordered by God.
Through His word, God has made available for us His infinite wisdom to guide us. This is why it is possible for the child of God who seeks and follows God’s guidance to walk through life without faltering. The guidance God gives through His word does not only cover spiritual matters but cuts across all aspects of human life - physical, social, matrimonial, academic, business, etc.
