TEXT: 2 THESSALONIANS 1:1-12

Key Verse : That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thessalonians 1:12).

According to an old Jewish legend, God, after creating the world, asked the angels what they thought about it. One of them said, “One thing is lacking, the sound of praise to the Creator.” So God created music and it was heard in the whisper of the wind and song of birds. And to man also was given the gift of song. Down the ages, the gift of song had indeed proved a blessing to multitudes of souls.

The desire of Paul the apostle for the believers in Thessalonica was for God to be glorified in them. However, before he got to this concluding verse, he commended them for the manifestation of their growing faith and their abounding charity one for another. He showed great affection and esteem for them.

He also glorified God on their behalf. He thanked God for them because they were more conformed to the truth of the gospel revelations and had lively expectations of another heaven. The growth of their faith was made manifest by the works of their faith. Where faith grows, grace grows proportionally.

It is instructive to note that the persecutions and tribulations these believers were going through did not overshadow the manifestation of Christian virtues and righteous living to the glory of God.

God’s purpose for all believers is to make them like Christ. To live worthy of this calling is to do what is pleasing to God at all times. Our good works should so shine before men that they will glorify God on our behalf. As God is glorified through us, we will fulfil the essence of our creation and redemption.

Thought for the Day : Live for God’s glory.
