Daily Manna: Day of Visitation

TEXT: HOSEA 9:10-17

Key Verse : “My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations”  (Hosea 9:17).

There is time for everything under  heaven. A time for rebuke and a time for reward. Jesus says, “behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be” (Revelation 22:12).

Hosea, who was known as the prophet of hope, spoke much about God’s love and compassion for Israel despite their idolatrous practices with the Canaanites. Yet, God was still interested in them.

In today’s passage, the prophet was very much firm on God’s visitation and the consequences of their wandering after other gods. Israel’s leaders formed an alliance with Egypt and Assyria to their own shame and dishonour. Their headache and calamity without the true God would be unbearable except a change of heart took place.

Like Israel of old, many people today engage in a rat race for power, position, popularity and material possession, and have forsaken the true God. Others who had precious promises of good things from God have taken to pleasure, immorality, revelry, partying and worldly amusements. Hosea pronounced God’s judgement on any wayward nation that refused to repent and return to God.

There is judgement for every obstinate sinner, whether in the church or outside the church. There is no eternal security for sinning believers who have the law of God but would rather follow the way of the world. Those who live as if there is no day of visitation will eventually discover their error when it is
too late.

Thought for the Day : Everything in the world outside God is meaningless and vain.
