Daily Manna: Under His Control

TEXT: JOSHUA 6:1-11

Key Verse : “And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD” (Joshua 6:12).

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said: “The heights which great men reached and kept were not obtained by sudden flight. But they, while their companions slept were toiling upward in the night.”

Joshua and his people had been promised victory over their enemies. But they had to work for it. Success does not just come by chance. The victory they eventually won came as a result of implicit obedience to the instructions given by God. They paid attention to details – how to move, when to move, instruments to use, the duration of the march, when to blow the trumpets and when to make the great shout.

They obeyed and got their victory. Had they despised the details; had they skipped any of the steps; had they gone to sleep when they were instructed to keep matching, the victory would not have been won.

Joshua and the entire Israel did not bother themselves about the heights of the walls or the seeming impossibility of defeating Jericho on account of the sophistication of its walls or security. They simply believed that with God, every mountain can be conquered.

As believers, God has promised us great things, but we must follow laid down principles to be able to appropriate the blessings. The believer’s journey is full of challenges; there are mines laid on the path to victory such that it can only take divine guidance to win every battle of life.

You must stop fretting over the hugeness of your challenges and focus on God, the Author and Finisher of your faith. There’s no mountain He cannot move and there is no challenge He cannot help you to overcome. If you can just trust His word, victory is sure.

Thought for the Day : Every mountain becomes a plain when it comes before Christ.
