TEXT: 1 JOHN 3:1-8
A kind-hearted motorist saw an elderly woman by the road side, sweating in the hot weather with a heavy load on her head. He quickly offered to help her and beckoned on her to come in. This she did, thanking her benefactor profusely, still carrying her load on her head. When she was asked why she was still carrying her load, she calmly replied that she never thought the kindness extended to her load.
The reason Christ came to the world was to take away every sin so that the believer could reign with Him in eternity. To abide in Him is to be dead to sin. This is because the believer has been transformed by Christ’s life-changing power and purity. The new birth produces spiritual life that results in an ever-present relationship with God. It is spiritually impossible to abide in Christ and still live in sin.
The hope of the believer is to see Christ as He is when He comes to take His saints away. This hope is sustained and watered by consistently living victoriously. “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” (verse 3).
Christ has provided all we need to live a victorious life every day. He has, by His vicarious death, put down our load of sin. And if you are still carrying your load of sin then you have not known Him because “he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin”. If you have truly repented and have been forgiven, you must lay your load at the foot of the cross by faith. A consciousness of the load still on your head indicates you are walking by sight, not by faith. Quit unbelief and appropriate the joy of salvation and peace with God.
Thought for the Day : Christ has paid the price for true freedom.
